ABOUT

Plant dyeing has been a unique practice for Chinese people to harmonize with nature since ancient times, embodying a symbiotic relationship with the environment. In spring, mugwort was utilized for cloth dyeing, while midsummer saw Dioscorea batatas creating mud silk. As autumn arrived, fallen leaves were employed to make rubbings on cloth, and in winter, peach branches were boiled to dye fabric. Throughout the year, various natural dyes were used, yielding a spectrum of hues including yellow, green, gold, and brown, influenced by diverse mordants and fabric types. As the seasons passed, plants transitioned from earthy origins to become the vibrant colors of nature, ingrained in our fabrics.

IMPORTANT

⚬ The traditional boiling method in dyeing may lead to slight imperfections as fabric is directly immersed in the dye vat, which are unavoidable. Also, since plant dyeing doesn't use chemical fixing, colors may gradually fade over time due to exposure to light and wear/washing.

⚬ As each production has slightly color difference, please purchase enough length for your project as it will have color difference in two purchases.

Although we assure that the silk products we sell are 100% authentic, the wide range of silk types can confuse buyers who are unfamiliar with unconventional silk fabrics. This may lead them to mistakenly believe that the fabric is counterfeit. To help everyone distinguish genuine silk, we offer the following simple method.

The easiest way to test real silk is through the "burning test." Follow these steps:

1. Take a small piece of the fabric or thread you want to test.

2. Use a lighter or matchstick to ignite one end of the fabric/thread.

3. Observe the burning characteristics:

- Genuine silk will burn slowly and have a smell similar to burning hair or feathers. The flame will self-extinguish after removing the heat source. The ash left behind will be black, crispy, and brittle.

- Fake silk or synthetic materials will burn more quickly and may have a smell like burning plastic or chemicals. The flame may continue to burn even after removing the heat source. The residue left behind may be hard, lumpy, or melted.

Remember to exercise caution when performing the burning test and ensure you are in a safe environment to avoid accidents.
